How to Stop iPhone from Dimming
Your iPhone’s screen may dim through a feature called Auto-Brightness. This is meant to save battery and reduce eye strain. But it can be annoying if your screen dims when you’re trying to read or watch something. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent this.
Adjust Auto-Brightness
Auto-Brightness adjusts your screen based on surrounding light levels. To turn off this feature, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Scroll down and toggle Auto-Brightness to off. This stops your phone from dimming automatically.
Turn Off True Tone
True Tone is another feature that affects screen brightness. It adjusts the white balance for better visibility. Disable True Tone by opening Settings > Display & Brightness. Switch off the True Tone slider to prevent automatic adjustments.
Check Night Shift
Night Shift changes colors to reduce eye strain at night. This might make your screen appear dimmer. To find Night Shift settings, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift. You can schedule it or turn it off entirely to see if it affects your issue.
Increase Auto-Lock Time
Your screen could dim before locking. Increase the time by navigating to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock. Set the duration you are comfortable with. This prevents the screen from dimming too quickly.
Disable Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode saves battery by reducing performance and screen brightness. If enabled, it can dim your screen. To turn it off, go to Settings > Battery. Flip the Low Power Mode switch to off.
Check Battery Health
Battery performance can affect screen brightness. If the battery is degraded, the device might lower brightness to maintain usage. In Settings > Battery > Battery Health, check if you need a replacement. Maintaining battery health might solve your dimming issue.
Accessibility Settings
Sometimes, accessibility options can affect screen brightness. Review your settings in Settings > Accessibility. Experiment with features like Reduce White Point, and ensure nothing else is altering brightness inadvertantly.
Reset All Settings
If none of the above steps work, a reset might help. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset. Choose Reset All Settings. This won’t delete your data but will revert settings back to default, potentially fixing the dimming problem.
